Everyone knows the Chicago Bears have a QB battle going on right now in training camp between Mitch Trubisky and Nick Foles. After Trubisky regressed last season by only throwing for 17 touchdowns and 10 interceptions and leading the Bears to a pedestrian 8-8 record, the Bears traded for the former Superbowl MVP in Nick Foles from Jacksonville in the hopes that it would push to Trubisky to play better knowing that he could be replaced anytime with an adequate option. Because, let’s be honest, Chase Daniel was NOT a threat to Mitch Trubisky’s job. The Bears needed someone to challenge Trubisky and remind him that if he does not turn his play, then he could very well lose his starting quarterback job.
That is exactly why the Bears brought in Nick Foles. He is very much competition for Mitch and could even replace him and now with training camp started for the Bears, we have seen the two quarterbacks go at it. After a few days of camp, neither has truly separated themselves yet according to reports but Trubisky has looked like he has improved, with better footwork, ball placement and overall decision making. All of these were major weaknesses for Trubisky last season and a large part of the reason he regressed after making the Pro Bowl in 2018. Matt Nagy has been non committal when asked about which quarterback will be the starter in Week 1 vs. the Detroit Lions. However, I still believe when all is said and done, that the winner of this quarterback competition will be the former No. 2 overall pick in Mitchell Trubisky. In fact, I’ve even got five reasons for why I think Trubisky wins the job. You can go ahead and check out the reasons in the video above.
