Clowney and the Tennessee Titans are starting to make some noise around the NFL. Sure we have heard this story numerous times before, but something seems different. The biggest free agent left on the market is Jadeveon Clowney. The Covid-19 situation is hurting free agents from visiting team facilities to take physicals. The 27-year-old is coming off of offseason surgery, so teams like the Titans will want to see him.
Why does Clowney and the Titans make sense for 2020? The Tennessee Titans were one win away from the Super Bowl LIV before falling to the Kansas City Chiefs. Former Titans defensive coordinator did not blitz Mahomes much and tried to confuse him with coverages. However, Mahomes was able to stay one step ahead by using his legs. Reasoning? Tennessee lacked a pass rusher. Now insert a healthy Jadeveon Clowney on the Titans defense. The former Seattle Seahawk could have made a significant difference in a game where the Titans started with a 10-0 lead. In 2017, Clowney had his best season as a pro with 9.5 sacks while playing for Vrabel’s defense in Houston.
According to Ken Moore, the Tennessee Titans signing Jadevelon Clowney is at 98%. Ken Moore sent a tweet out on July 20th, 2020, stating a source told him Clowney was going to sign with the Titans. However, Ken was quick to point out that until he signs, anything can happen. The 2020 offseason has been like no other before with Covid-19. One could argue Clowney would have been given a deal by now if it was any other year. Will Jadeveon sign a one year deal is the only question. Clowney seems to be in no rush to sign and continues to be patient. The Titans, Browns, Seahawks, Jets, and Raiders have shown the most interest. Expect the top free agent to sign soon with players reporting to camp on July 28th.
