If you have not heard by now, Allen Robinson is unhappy with the Chicago Bears. The 27 year old Pro-Bowl WR is entering the last year of his three year $42M deal that he signed with the Bears and he wants a new contract. And he deserves one, as Robinson has been at various times the lone bright spot on this Bears inconsistent offense. He recorded 98 catches for 1147 yards last season, including seven touchdown. He has been one of the most underrated wide receivers in the entire NFL. Robinson has seen other wide receivers such as Keenan Allen and DeAndre Hopkins get paid and he wants to be rewarded as such. As a result, reports have now surfaced that he has even asked the Bears for a trade if they do not extend him.
Now, in terms of why the Bears have not paid Robinson, there are several factors at play. All of which I discuss in the video above. Perhaps the biggest factor however is the fact that the current pandemic has made the current salary cap very uncertain for the next year, and as a result the Bears might not know how much money they will have in order to pay not just Robinson but their other players as well. Another factor at play is that Robinson may be asking for more than the Bears are willing to offer. The Bears may be looking to pay Robinson in the range of the money that Keenan Allen got, instead of what the Cardinals gave DeAndre Hopkins.
Negotiations are always tough but this is a win now Bears team that does not look like it will even entertain trading away it’s best wide receiver who is still in the middle of his prime. So far Bears fans out there, this will be a waiting game but I ultimately expect a deal to get done.
