Shaquille and Shaquem Griffin

While many had speculated that heading into the season, the biggest game on the schedule where the Seahawks would play for the NFC West crown would be week 17, at San Francisco… To the surprise of most, that game is coming one week early this year, week 16 versus the Rams! The Seahawks lost the first matchup between these teams this year 23-16 and looked like a mere shell of what they are capable of. Seattle has lost five of the last six matchups with the Rams, as well as eight of the past 11. How can Seattle turn the tides in this week’s huge battle? Follow these keys to victory!
Seattle lost the sack battle last time these two played 3-6, which was a major factor in the loss. Ever since coming into the NFL, Aaron Donald has relentlessly sacked Russell Wilson, bringing him down more times than any other QB in that span. If Seattle wants to win on Sunday, they must win the sack battle by protecting Wilson, and frustrating Goff.
Seattle lost the turnover battle last time these two played 1-3, a dreadful ratio that very-well tells the story of the game. Jared Goff can turn the ball over in BUNCHES when he is uncomfortable… Unfortunately, Seattle could not make him uncomfortable. Winning the sack battle will lead to the Seahawks winning the turnover battle, but if they want to win this game, they need to prioritize both. Seattle must make Goff uncomfortable and protect the football to win this Sunday.
Seattle needs to control the ball against the Rams, which is done by and makes it easier to have offensive versatility. Pete Carroll came out and told us the secret formula for a balanced attack offensively, during a press conference: combine offensively for 50 < completed passes & rush attempts. This will allow us to control the time of possession, keeping our defense well-rested on the sideline. This will also indicate that Seattle’s rushing attack is working efficiently, which is more than the Seahawks can say about their last matchup with the Rams. Key rushers Chris Carson, Rashaad Penny, and Carlos Hyde are all available for this game after missing the last matchup with Los Angeles… They should make the difference in this department!
If the Seahawks want to win the NFC West this Sunday, they need to play a clean and efficient ballgame. Otherwise, Sean McVay will get the best of Seattle, once more.
