The NFL draft is 6 days away. Howie Roseman is placed under an extreme spotlight in this upcoming 2021 NFL Draft. This may be considered his Eagles fan judgment day. Will Howie Roseman make the correct pick or will he be the definition of how to get fired as an NFL GM. In this video I discuss all the ways Howie Roseman can possibly lose his job and respect with eagle fans or how he can become legendary.
There has been plenty of chatter from the beginning of the draft that Howie Roseman possibly wanted to trade up for a quarterback. With the Eagles drafting Jalen hurts in the 2020 draft utilizing a second round pick, and the following year releasing Carson Wentz while eating millions of dollars in dead cap money; it would be hard for Eagles to withstand drafting another quarterback with the number 12 pick. If for some miraculous reason Zach Wilson or Trevor Lawrence fall to #12, make no mistake Howie Roseman will pick up the phone immediately. If the Eagles draft a quarterback not named Zach or Trevor in the first round, more than likely Howie he will be fired.
Strong talks have emerged of the Eagles possibly selecting a defensive tackle with the number 12 pick. Currently the Philadelphia Eagles defensive line group is one of the highest paid position groups on the team. With this draft being assessed as a down year for the defensive tackle group, it would be ridiculous for Howie Roseman to make such a pick at #12. If so, that may put his job in jeopardy and the organization into question.
Another automatic firing for Howie Roseman would be if he got fleeced by the Dallas Cowboys or New York Giants. Both division rivals pick one pick spot ahead of the Eagles. Eagles fans remember too well during the 2019 draft when the Dallas Cowboys selected CeeDee Lamb because they were not aggressive enough. Howie Roseman must avoid a similar pattern in this draft, otherwise the fan base may go into an uproar.
Trading back too far in this draft, specifically out of the top 20 may also cause raised eyebrows at Howie Roseman. With the Philadelphia Eagles having potentially three first round draft picks in the 2022 NFL draft, at some point the team must select an impact player. Trading too far back in the draft may limit those possibilities, in which his job may be on the line.
Lastly and most importantly, this is not the draft for surprises. It would be in Howie Roseman’s best interest to stick to the draft board instead of drafting a player no one’s ever heard of. Reminders of when the New York Giants selected Daniel Jones with the number four pick in the 2019 NFL Draft; It was not initially received well by the fan base. I would expect for that reaction to be similar or worse from us Philadelphia eagle fans. All in all, these are some of the ways of how to get fired as a GM or for Howie Roseman to win Eagles hearts back.
