Day one of free agency was off to a slow start for the Las Vegas Raiders. Big names coming off the board left and right, then out of nowhere the raiders signed defensive end Yannick Ngakoue to a 2 year deal worth $26M. He reunites with his former head coach Gus Bradley in Vegas.
Ngakoue played 2 seasons under Gus Bradley where he played his best games. He now joins a Raiders team that is in desperate need of pass-rush.
Last season Yannick played for two different teams, the Minnesota Vikings and the Baltimore Ravens where he tallied a total of 8 sacks. Five of those with the Vikings and the other three with the Ravens.
Since entering the NFL in 2016, Yannick Ngakoue ranks 12th in sacks with 45.5, 3rd in strip sacks with 15, and 2nd in forced fumbles with 18. The Raiders definitely got the pass rusher they’ve been missing since Khalil Mack. Now I’m not saying he is Mack, but he has all the intangibles to be a dominate pass-rusher for the silver and black.
The Raiders basically got rid of Trent Brown’s $14M cap hit in 2021 and replaced him with a proven defender in Yannick Ngakoue for a $13M cap hit.
This is only the first of many moves for the Raiders in free agency and look for them to make more signings in day 2 of free agency.
