Ravens Patriots Preview – Lamar Jackson faces off against Cam Newton in primetime.
It seems like Lamar Jackson and the Baltimore Ravens have been the talk of the league lately. Everyone wants to know what’s wrong with the offense, has Jackson regressed, or is the coaching to blame? Fact of the matter is there’s no easy answer as it’s many different factors. You could point to the fact that they traded away Hayden Hurst, and they’re not able to run 3 tight end sets anymore. There was also Marshal Yanda announcing his retirement during the offseason. The Ravens lost a lot of offensive pieces from last season and didn’t put a huge emphasis on replacing them. There’s also some questions about Greg Roman as the offensive play caller and if he’s become stale as has usually been the case throughout his career.
Regardless of all those issues, the fact remains that the Ravens offense is not as dominant as it was last season. However, they face up against an offense that has had some trouble of their own in the New England Patriots. While Cam Newton has put together some impressive performances, it’s clear he doesn’t have a spectacular supporting cast either. Both of these quarterbacks are exciting and are capable of taking over the game themselves. However, Newton has more of a challenge as he is going up against a relentless Ravens defense. On the other hand, Jackson faces a well coached unit, but one that may not have enough talent to keep the Ravens from scoring.
It’ll be interesting to watch the chess match between a Bill Belichick coached defense and a Lamar Jackson led offense. Last season, the Ravens came out on top in prime time. Will we see the same result this year?
