Ravens trade rumors – Eric DeCosta still planning on one more move?
With the trade deadline quickly approaching on November 3rd, fans want to know if their teams will make moves. While the Baltimore Ravens already traded for pass rusher Yannick Ngakoue, could they make another move? General Manager Eric DeCosta made a comment that they weren’t done building the team despite trading for Ngakoue and signing wide receiver Dez Bryant. While the Ravens cap situation isn’t the best, it’s clear they know they have a team capable of contending. While the defense is one of the best units in football, the offense hasn’t been as effective as last season. Lamar Jackson has been playing well, the passing game has severely suffered due to lack of weapons. Aside from Marquise “Hollywood” Brown and Mark Andrews, no other receiver has stepped up as expected.
DeCosta attempted to trade for Philadelphia Eagles tight end Zach Ertz and Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Adam Thielen. However, the Eagles placed Ertz on season ending IR, which nixed the possibility. The Thielen rumor might not have been serious as DeCosta asked about him while trading for Ngakoue. Regardless, it’s clear the Ravens front office is working hard to improve the offensive side of the ball. The Ravens lost two key pieces over the offseason when they traded tight end Hayden Hurst and offensive lineman Marshal Yanda retired. The protection has been bad compared to last season, and the receivers struggle to get open. All these factors are contributing to the Ravens offense not operating at as high of a level as last year.
Would another tight end or receiver be the answer for the Ravens’ offensive woes? It would certainly help, but until the offensive line can develop some chemistry, expect to continue to see some sputtering.
