Redskins Temporary Name Will be Washington Football Team

My favorite football team decided to call themselves what!? Yes, they have decided to call themselves the Washington Football Team for the 2020 season. I know the name is temporary but it just feels like a joke. Dan Snyder 99.9% gets everything wrong but this time he may be doing the name change process the right way. During this video I express my initial raw and unfiltered reaction to the breaking news of the name announcement.

Washington Football Team?!?

I honestly couldn’t believe it when I got the news that this was going to be the name but it is only temporary. Many fans of opposing teams couldn’t help but sound off and make jokes about the new name. What many people don’t understand is that there are many legalities and trademark issues with getting a new name and mascot. The fan favorite Redwolves mascot is under trademark by the Arkansas St. Redwolves. The name Warriors and other mascots are being held by trademark squatter Martin Mcauley. It could take a year or longer to rebrand a professional football team. The team stated yesterday that “for the next 50 days, we will begin the process of retiring all Redskins branding from team properties whether it be FedExField, Redskins Park, and other physical, digital spaces.” The team hopes to complete the process by the 1st game of the season which is against the Philadelphia Eagles on September 13th.

Jersey Style

The good news is that the Jerseys will have the same color scheme of the legendary burgundy and gold. Instead of the Native American logo on the side of the helmet, there will be a number just like the University of Alabama helmets. It’s makes sense because the Washington team has multiple draft picks and players from Alabama. Since there is limited time until the season starts it is wise to keep the jerseys the same for the most part. Multiple players took to social media to show what the new jersey would possibly look like. Dwayne Haskins, Chase Young and Ryan Kerrigan we’re some of the players that posted the new look via Twitter. Like I’ve said before I am tired of all the off the field news and name change. I just want to see this team win ball games and if we win 12 games this year or next year I won’t care if our name is the cupcakes. Lastly, the famous Hail to the Skins song and hashtag will be revised. I’m ready for the season to start and just focus on football.
