This Giants offense has been a huge surprise this season as they were the most inexperienced unit both in players and coaching staff than the offense. Many believed that it would have been the experienced personnel on the offense to carry this 2020 Giants team but that couldn’t have been farther from the truth. This season is far from over but it doesn’t hurt to speculate. What’s next for this team?
I know it may not be the right to talk about the 2021 season with the Giants knee deep in a late season playoff contention but it warrants it good question. How can we keep this defense intact for next season? The Giants have 3 key defensive players pending to hit free agency and will cost themselves a pretty penny to maintain all three.
The Giants key defenders hitting free agency are DT Dalvin Tomlinson, DE Leonard Williams, and FS Logan Ryan. All three have a projected cap total of $40 million dollars in average salary if they were to be resigned. The Giants have a couple of players on the roster that are expendable that can help with our $22 million dollar projected cap next season as well that would put us close to $50 million. (Full breakdown in video).
You may be asking “But, what about other free agents?” The Giants don’t necessarily have any other big priority free agents they need to keep around for next season besides a couple, most notably Wayne Gallman. But, other than him the Giants have tons of expendable guys hitting free agency that don’t need to be resigned.
I don’t necessarily think the Giants need big name talent to be successful so long as the right coaching is put in place as we have seen so far this season. If the Giants have the right coaches, there should be no worry who the Giants put out there on the turf.
