Washington’s Head coach Ron Rivera announced that Dwayne Haskins will be the week 1 starter against the Eagles. Now Haskins can really show that the league has messed up. Haskins has really locked in and worked hard this offseason. He lost fifteen pounds and did well in every virtual meeting.
Dwayne was highly doubted by the national media. Former Washington player Deangelo Hall went on NFL Network and said that Kyle Allen would beat out Haskins for the starting job. He also said that Dwayne Haskins was young and didn’t want to compete. Hall’s statement was very disrespectful and wrong since Haskins beat out Joe Burrow in college at Ohio State. Haskins used all the negative comments as motivation.
Dwayne only started 7 games last year but showed flashes towards the end of the season. He got better every game especially when the play calling was given to former offensive coordinator Kevin O’ Connell. Haskins won rookie of the week last year against the Eagles who the Washington team plays next Sunday. He also went 12 for 15 with 2 touchdowns against the Giants last year in week 16. That game he had a 143.2 quarterback rating.
Haskins was not put in a good situation last year with a coach that did not want to draft him. Dwayne’s last 2 games showed that if he has a coach that believes in him and tailors the playbook around his skillset then the sky is the limit for the young quarterback. Dwayne has a huge arm and his weight loss will help him be more of a threat scrambling out of the pocket. Dwayne Haskins is going to surprise a lot of people this season
