Yes I know shocking right? Madden got something wrong? How could this happen? How did I come to that conclusion?
I know many fans after seeing Christian McCaffery be rated 99 above all other running backs have to be scratching there heads, so here is a need dose of sanity.
So, what was my process to find out who is the best running back in the NFL?
I picked the 4 best running backs from last season and compared their numbers by recording their stats vs top 10 DVOA run defenses for the last 2 seasons.
By doing this it will even the playing field when comparing stats, makes sure stat pads against bad defenses do skew numbers and that all numbers accounted for will be against the best 30th percentile of run defenses. This eliminates the bad competition argument because the only rushing numbers being recorded are against top 10 rush defenses. Now their are some variables that will need to be factored in receiving stats will be important when trying to factor in which running back is more versatile and the ranking of each running backs offensive line in the run game will also be noted.
I will compare the stats of the four best running backs in the NFL
Derrick Henry, Christian McCaffrey, Zeke Elliot, and Nick Chubb
To see which of these four elite backs stats hold up the most under intense scrutiny.
So with that stated, in doing research I think I found some interesting things out about these elite running backs. To find out more watch the video below
