The Tennessee Titans have gone through an interesting offseason. The offense last season was the best statistically the organization has ever seen. Ryan Tannehill had more touchdowns than any Quarterback in Titans/Oiler history. Derrick Henry was simply amazing with a stunning 2,027-yard performance and looks primed to achieve greatness again. On the other hand, the defense was terrible. They also broke records but in the wrong way. They had the worst 3rd down defense in NFL history. Yes, I did say NFL history. The pass rush was pretty much non-existent. They had one of the worst seasons in franchise history with only 19 sacks!
This offseason has been an eventful one all around the NFL. The Buccaneers retained their whole starting lineup on both sides of the ball. The first team in over 20 years to do so. Other teams made big trades and big moves as well. Matthew Stafford looks to actually “Win” now. He was traded to the Rams in exchange for a bunch of draft picks and Jared Goff. The New England Patriots went on a spending spree, picking up Jonnu Smith, Hunter Henry, and Nelson Agholor. Deshaun Watson’s status is still up in the air with lingering lawsuits and the possibility of a trade. The salary cap was lower this year because of the effects of the pandemic and a record low attendance in stadiums across the country. It has been a weird 2020/2021 for all sports and the entire world in general.
Jon Robinson had little to work with when the season ended as far as capital is concerned. It looked like the Titans were not going to be able to make a splash in Free Agency. Some shocking things ensued. The Titans let go of their 2 starting cornerbacks in Adoree Jackson and Malcolm Butler. Kenny Vaccaro was waived and Daquan Jones has yet to be resigned. On the offensive side, Adam Humphries, Corey Davis, Jonnu Smith, and Dennis Kelly were released or not resigned.
That freed up a good amount of money and Jrob went out and signed Bud Dupree to a massive contract. They also picked up Denico Autry and Janoris Jenkins and resigned Jayon Brown to a team-friendly one-year deal. It looks like they are going with Jenkins and Kristian Fulton as their 2 starting corners. Jenkins has had a consistent career and his play has not seemed to decline even though he is 32. I personally think he is an upgrade from Malcolm Butler but many people would say otherwise. Bud Dupree is a stellar pass rusher and run stopper and can wreck a game. Denico Autry will be a nice compliment to Dupree and is a definite upgrade over Daquan Jones. They also picked up Kevin Johnson but it still remains to be seen what his role will be in the secondary.
Many fans were surprised by the release of Dennis Kelly. He had a solid season at the right tackle position and was a fan favorite. They picked up Kendall Lamm and it looks like he and Ty Sambreilo will duke it out for a starting spot. It would not surprise me if they draft a Tackle like last year. We all know the disaster of Isaiah Wilson and I’m sure Jrob and Mike Vrabel will do more vetting this time around. It looks like the offense will lack the firepower they had last year but many people are very high on Josh Reynolds. He has improved his numbers every season he has been in the league and should be a good target for Tannehill. The question is, is he a number two wide receiver?
So what the Titans will do in the upcoming NFL draft is the question on everybody’s mind. Will they draft a tackle, cornerback, or wide receiver in the first round? One thing I know is, they need to draft better than they did last off-season. They are in that 2 to 3-year window with Derrick Henry, Ryan Tannehill, and AJ Brown. The time is now for the Tennessee Titans to try and win it all.

I agree with you, it’s now or never. Jrob obviously wants to go big or go home before all our big guys’ contracts end. We should go DB first round cause I dont trust Fulton as our DB2 fully. And 2nd round hopefully a good slot receiver is still available which will most likely be the case. If we get that, we really don’t have alot of weaknesses except for TE. I don’t see a scenario where, if this goes to plan, where we don’t AT LEAST win our division
Thanks so much for reading!
